The data has been processed using Ion Torrent pipeline (Life Technologies, Carlsbad, USA) to reduce sequencing errors and chimeras. Sequences were clustered at 3% distance and classified using the RDP training set version 9 at a confidence level of 80% using an optimized version of the RDP classifier [2]. PyroTagger was used for quality filter and chimera checking. A total of 4,778,675 reads were obtained with an average length of 248 bp. A total of 593,000 sequences were classified as unique reads and 4,175,675 sequences were grouped into 514 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) at a distance of 3%. Eighty-eight percent of the sequences were from the archaea domain, and 16% of the sequences from the bacteria domain. The majority of the classified OTUs belonged to the phyla Firmicutes (38%) and Bacteroidetes (30%). The remaining OTUs were distributed among the phyla Actinobacteria, Euryarchaeota, and Proteobacteria.

Eighty percent of the sequences were from the archaeal domain and only 16% of the sequences from the bacterial domain. Among the archaeal sequences, it was most abundant in the phylum Euryarchaeota (70%), followed by the phyla Crenarchaeota (28%) and Thaumarchaeota (2%). The bacterial sequences were mostly distributed among the phyla Firmicutes (40%), Bacteroidetes (30%), Proteobacteria (19%), and Spirochaetes (11%).
