While further research is needed in order to provide empirical support for interventions for the exonerated, evidence-based practices are available to social workers. Eighty-four percent of social workers surveyed in a recent study (Hershcovitch, 2010) reported that they had treated a client who experienced a trauma, and 99% of them used supportive counseling as a first-line intervention to address trauma. Over half of the social workers in the same survey reported that they had worked with clients who experienced a traumatic event. Social workers can draw upon a range of evidence-based interventions for clients with PTSD, including: Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
