Peaky Blinders : Season 3 Episode 1

Arthur, who many expected to be in the depths of full blown cocaine addiction, instead was seen pressured into a new drug: religion, while one of the best and most telling moments of the episode revolved around Michael - a well-balanced scene that showed his willingness to get down and dirty with the Blinders but also that he possesses the intelligence and restraint of his cousin, Tommy. We can expect him to become hugely important as the season - and show - progresses.
Well, it is definitely nice to see Peaky Blinders back and I sincerely hope the show is able to do something with the magnificent Ned Dennehy. Although I felt the episode did a good job of setting up the season and foreshadowing many potential outcomes, it felt like somewhat of a rehash of the previous season.
Still catching a breath from the explosive ending to the second season, Peaky Blinders returns for a third crack at the criminal underworld. With a darker tone and far more ambitious story, at times the plot feels in danger of spiraling out of control but manages to keep things together until the explosive finale. Dabbling in Russian affairs, Tommy finds himself in way over his head for much of the season and instead of leading on the front foot, much of the 6 episodes see him reeling and playing catch up to a devious group of individuals that are hellbent on outfoxing him at every turn. In many ways this sets the tone for much of the season with sprinkling of mild humour thrown in early on to try and offset the darker tone.
Fans love the consistent performances from the actors, the plotlines, twists and turns, and cinematography. Each Peaky Blinders episode feels like an event. But like with any television show, some episodes are better than others. The best episodes of Peaky Blinders are often the ones filled with lots of double-hander scenes between big characters, with firefight action sprinkled throughout. Just like every season of Dexter, Peaky Blinders' different seasons feel distinct from one another.
All throughout the episode Tommy questions who the traitor in his camp is, after having recurring Black Cat dreams. He loses it at the end when Barney and Aberama are killed and Tommy's assassination attempt on Mosley is foiled. There is a great scene with Michael proposing an entire restructuring of the company, to the disgust of Tommy and Polly. Mr. Jones is a gem in an otherwise dull season.
It is packed with great moments, particularly between Polly and Michael, Polly and Campbell, and Tommy and Campbell. The death of Campbell is gritty and dark, but a great empowering moment for Polly who was raped by him at the start of the season. The end of the episode sees Tommy almost killed by the Ulsters before it is revealed he was saved by a double agent working for Winston Churchill.
By order of Vincente Changretta (Kenneth Colley), who seeks revenge for his son, Grace (Annabelle Wallis) is killed by an Italian assassin at the Shelby Charity Foundation Dinner in season three, episode two of Peaky Blinders.
The show has flirted with such narrative upheaval before. Arthur nearly committed suicide but got a fateful reprieve when the rope he used to hang himself broke in the fifth episode of Season 1, Campbell nearly killed Polly after allegedly making a deal with her to get Tommy out of prison in the fifth episode of Season 2, and Tommy even came extremely close to getting executed in the final moments of the second season before being spared at the last second to set up the bigger geopolitical plans the British government has for the family heading into Season 3.
The show's fandom also includes some big names like Stephen King, Ron Howard, and David Bowie, who, shortly before his 2016 death, granted the show permission to use his song \"Lazarus\" in a season 3 episode. And then there's the moment Knight knew they'd really made it: Snoop Dogg asked to meet him. \"We had three hours in a hotel where he told me his life story and said that Peaky reminded him of how he got involved in gang culture,\" Knight recalls.
