The SMX300 is built on a modified Canon CCD camera platform. The SMX300 has a
customized software package that controls the camera and data collection. The software
package allows for the control of the camera, data collection and data analysis. This
software package consists of a single executable file, multiple.dll files and a.xml
file. The.xml file is a configuration file with all parameter settings for the SMX300.
The.dll files contain the camera and data collection software. The camera software
allows users to control the settings for the CCD camera via an intuitive graphical user
interface. Once the CCD camera is configured for data collection, the user simply loads
the sample, collects data, and then analyzes the sample. The software package is controlled
from a Windows based computer. The SMX300 has a proprietary docking port that allows the
user to connect to the computer to power on the SMX300, collect data, and run software
programs. The SMX300 is currently supported on Microsoft Windows operating systems,
including Windows 7, 8, and 10.
All software and software updates are provided through the University of Iowa Digital Commons. The Digital Commons is not a department within ITS, rather the Digital Commons is managed by the Department of Computer Science. The Digital Commons is not responsible for software/software updates. If the Digital Commons receives notice of a violation of this policy, the Digital Commons will inform the University of Iowa and the University will pursue the violation. ITS has developed a process to ensure that all software is kept up-to-date on the network. This includes virus software, new browser plugins, and any other software that may be required to run some of the applications that are installed on the network.
The analysis tools available in OMNIC allow large sites to be analyzed quickly, allowing for quick modifications, additions and removals of equipment to be made. OMNIC estimates the power of a device and its output without a detailed manual determination.
“OMNIC is very sophisticated and powerful,” Huggins said. “It has been very helpful in finding problems in the building, and we’ve learned a lot from it in terms of troubleshooting, finding the problems, and that’s an example of a tool that has helped the school a great deal.”. 827ec27edc
