Tried this and now i am in the middle of no where. Just lost os and now it just goes straight to recovery and that also does not re install lion :( any ways working on it should be able to find a solution :)
No, as long as you are installing Lion on your own personal Macs, this is fine. Mac OS X Lion comes with a very generous personal license that allows you to install the OS on all of your personal Macs. This method just allows you to avoid downloading the entire package again.
You have 11A511. The App Store version is 11A494. Slightly older version for the older Macs. 11A511 components are downloaded during the install process. See my comment to your other post about option-clicking.
I lost my OSX SL CD. Can I buy and download Lion on my MacBook Air, make a usb-stick like this, and then do a clean install with it on my iMac Or will this usb stick only be useable on the machine I made it
you will be able to do an upgrade using this methodon your macs as long as they have core 2 duo ornewer intel processor 2gb of ram or more 8 + gb of harddrive space free I would recommend 40gb + free forbest performance and even though you have downloadedlion using a Mac other than you are installing it on the installerwill still insist you have to be running 10.6.6 or laterand will not proceed with the upgrade unless you are running10.6.6 or later
If you have the foresight to let Time Machine perform a full backup of your Mac before running the Lion installer (but after it has downloaded from the App Store) then you can skip re-downloading the 4Gb file. Just go to Time Machine, visit your Applications folder, find the TM backup with the Lion installer (Install Mac OS X Lion) and restore it. Ta-da! ;)
Is this bootable Lion image something that you can use as an emergency repair disk by adding things like DiskWarrior and TechTools Pro (when they are lion certified) Or is this bootable image only capable of booting and installing Lion
On the same topic, if my assumption is incorrect, would my solution be to wait for DasBoot to be lion certified or to install of SL on a new partition, put on lion, slim it all down, and clone it to a thumb drive
after lion is installed the lion app will disappear from yourapps folder you basically have to extract the installesd.dmgbefore you or the Mac restarts to complete the lion installationalternatively you can purchase lion 10.7.0 on USB rom drivefrom the apple site or apple store for 75 aud yes is a littlemore costly but it gives the security that no one can formatthe drive on you making it a good alternative
There are a number of reasons why you might want to download macOS X Lion 10.7 ISO. You may need to install it on a different Mac, or you may have an old Mac that is no longer supported by the latest version of macOS and so needs to be updated to the latest version.
Downloading macOS X Lion 10.7 DMG File is a process that involves downloading the file, installing it, and then using it. The first step of this process is to download the file by clicking on the link that has been provided in this article or by visiting the site that hosts this file. Once you have downloaded it, you will need to install it on your system so that you can use it.
When Apple announced at their World Wide Developers Conference the release of OS X Lion, they shared that they were moving forward with a new way to distribute software to their customers. No longer would you be able to buy the latest and greatest software from Apple on DVDs or other media. Starting with OS X Lion, the only way to get new software will be to download and install it through the Mac App store.
I had opened another discussion that went nowhere. I am unable to use Recovery to reinstall my OS in my MacBook Pro (2012). I get the message that the components cannot be downloaded. Everything suggested has not worked. The only option is to create a bootable USB. Where can I legally download a copy of the Installer.dmg in order to create the bootable USB Thanks.
I don't know. I don't have access to the specs, since i cannot use it. I bought in Spring 2012. How much is Catalina I was not planning on purchasing a OS. Even if use Catalina, I cannot use Apple Store to download. Where do I get the download Thanks for your help.
Please bear with me folks. This is my first post. I have an iMac made in late 2011. The hard drive in it failed, so i purchased a new replacement hard drive and installed it. Thought it would be a good idea to purchase OS X Lion online from Apple so I had a valid, complete copy of the operating system. The purchase went through great....no problems. So, now i'd like to download it and create a bootable/installable USB drive. No one yet has been able to put me on track as to how i can download my purchase. Any help would be appreciated.
Mac OS X 10. 6 Snow Leopard was released in 2009 and introduced the Mac App Store. Apple used to sell Snow Leopard for $19.99, but Apple no longer offers it. You can find downloadable copies of Snow Leopard and Leopard on the Internet Archive and the reviews on the Internet Archive pages have tips on how to create USB installers from the downloads.
Apple has kept OS X 10.7 Lion and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion available for customers who have machines limited to the older software, but until recently, Apple was charging $19.99 to get download codes for the updates.
Mavericks was free to download, and Apple has not charged for Mac software since then outside of the legacy Lion and Mountain Lion updates. Apple also used to have OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard available for a fee, but it is no longer purchasable.
If you only redoing the actual OSX partition and already had Lion installed, you can use Cmd+R during boot to access the Recovery partition which will allow you to download OSX Lion or restore from Time Machine.
Apple actually thought about this exact scenario. If your MacBook is from Mid-2010 or later and has previously had Lion installed on it, you should be able to use Lion Internet Recovery. It's similar to using the Recovery Partition, but intended for cases where that partition is not available (e.g. a new hard drive.) Hold down Cmd-R while booting, and it will download the recovery partition from Apple and then boot into the normal recovery partition.
The easiest way is to download CarbonCopyCloner, and purchase a USB to SATA cable. When you start the copying process, CCC will notice that your new disk doesn't have the recovery partition and offer to make it for you. At that point, it will shrink the existing partition on your drive, and create the boot partition. At that point, your drive is bootable to it's recovery partition. From there, you can either install Lion from the App store (which is what I did), let CCC copy data over, or do your Time Machine restore (didn't test time machine.) Should you find CCC worthwhile, purchase a license.
Once you install a working copy of any version of 10.6 on that hard drive and boot up the MacBook with it, you can download the combo update for 10.6.8, which gives you access to the Apple Store, where you can buy, download and install Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.
With the launch of Lion, Apple has made it clear that it wants to kill off the disc drive. The operating system, which boasts over 250 new features, including support for full-screen applications and a launchpad option to give people access to all programs on the Mac, was made available last month in the Mac App Store as a digital download for $29. For the first time, Apple did not offer an installation disc for customers to buy. And by offering a USB drive instead, it's apparent that Apple won't.
In a friend's Mac, download the desired OS installer (High Sierra in my case for my MacBook Pro Late 2011 - google \"How to Download a Full macOS High Sierra Installer App\") and create the bootable USB, HDD or even SSD with Disk Creator (2 steps very friendly freeware tool - google \"disk creator\").
If you have access to a second Mac you should be able to create a bootable OS installer following the guide and OS download I posted above. Make sure you format the USB thumb drive to GUID Journaled file system before you start.
I'm getting this same error, i tried formatting my macbook pro mid 2010 and after that i can't download the mac os, i'm now stuck in the mac os x utilities and i can't even use my laptop now. I already tried changing the date but still its not working. Do u guys know how to fix it
Also don't have an answer but I have got a completely wiped iMac late 2011 trying to install Lion (or just any OS for that matter!). Read through all the comments, tried the date/time fix in Terminal but no year between 2009 to now makes any difference, same error- cant download additional components needed to install Mac OS\". And if connecting to WIFI overrides the date/time fix then how are you supposed to install the OS Connecting to Safari via MAC Utilities and downloading it doesn't work either because you download the dmg file but because theres no OS, theres nothing to then open the dmg file!! Help!
For example, on a Macbook 2012, the factory OS shipped with the Macbook is MacOS Lion version, if you press [command]+[R], it will attempt to re-download the \"Lion\" version, which is not available and it will fail to download. In stead, with [command]+[option]+[R], it will download macOS High Sierra.
But creating a bootable USB disk allows you to install or update macOS on multiple systems without having to download the installer on each Mac. This can save quite a bit of time, considering the most recent versions of mac
