That's incredible! Arena chess 3.5.1 is much better than Chessbase Fritz 17, especially for engines vs engines tournaments. You can freely upgrade / remove / change every engine and parameter without losing all previous data. And freeware Stockfish and derivates are much stronger than all engines sold by Chessbase. Few open source developers agaist a 30 years old giant manifacturer that never innovates (Fat Fritz is copied and hosted by LC0)
Hi Sred! Changed \"giant\" to \"historical\" . I really hope that Fat Fritz 2.0 will become the new leader because, since the retirement of Frans Morsch, Fritz has not been improved greatly by Gyula Horváth, Vasik Rajlich and Frank Schneider. Same for the interface: I have used Fritz 17 of a friend at the chessclub for the preliminary blitz, and it's almost identical to Fritz 8 that I have bought in 2003!! They could publish Fritz and Chessbase also for Mac and, why not Linux, to increase sales. Since I have switched to mac, I have used Winboard, xboard and recently Arena. And now I've discovered BanksiaGui (for Windows, Mac and Linux) that's even better especially regarding engines and tournaments management, but also for the GUI, very bizarre but completely re-configurable. I 'll use it for next tournament, when all best engines will be natively compiled for Silicon M1. That's the strenght of open source. Stockfish has been continuosly inproved in ten years by very skilled programmers, sharing their knowledge for free! Now also Chessbase has discovered the potential of open source and sells an engine based on it and Leela Chess Zero. I don't know if it is possible but, If open source programmers are allowed to modify it, Fat Fritz 3.0 will be incredible (and maybe also for Mac and Linux)
jjlai1111 Ceres doesn't work on my system, like Igel 2.9.0 and Pedone 3.0. I need a version for popcnt, sse3 or sse41. I have told about Fat Fritz 2.0 to my friends at the chess club that have a PC (it is not upgradable from Fritz 17) ... but Stockfish 2021 (and derivates are already stronger) 153554b96e
